Juan Cárcamo – Pastoral  Testimony
of Faith and Call to Ministry

Picture
I am a follower of Jesus Christ—He is my Savior and my Lord. I believe this with all my heart. My journey of faith began with a personal encounter with Jesus that radically changed the direction of my life. His love, His grace, and His truth captured my soul, and from that moment on, I have been committed to serving the purposes of His Kingdom.

I believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. I affirm the historic Christian confession of the Trinity: One God, eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe in the full deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death through the shedding of His blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His promised return in power and glory.

I affirm that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for the salvation of lost and sinful humanity. I believe the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer, empowering us to live a godly life and fulfill our callings. I also affirm the resurrection of both the saved and the lost—those who are saved to eternal life, and those who are lost to eternal separation from God. I hold firmly to the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

My call to ministry was born out of both spiritual conviction and a deep awareness of the suffering and brokenness in the world. Early in my pastoral journey, I saw clearly the powerful connection between the Gospel and the transformational needs of communities. In the '90s, I was called to ministry with the young through the Baptist Young Association in El Salvador in where I was the National coordinator for 6 years. Since 2000, I've served the Lord and the church as a Ministry in different ministries in El Salvador, Honduras, and Canada in different denominations like the Baptist, the Christian Reformed Church, and currently with the Free Methodist Church of Canada.

Additionally, over the past 15 years, I have served with organizations such as World Vision, World Renew, and Living Water International and recently also through Tyndale University and Latin American Mission. These roles have allowed me to coach, mentor, and equip church leaders and community teams—helping them grow spiritually while also building capacity to respond to human needs. I have also worked alongside denominational boards and grassroots churches to cultivate leadership, strengthen strategic planning, and develop culturally sensitive and biblically grounded outreach efforts.

Throughout this journey, I have been continually shaped by the example of Jesus and recently by the Wesleyan commitment to both personal holiness and social holiness. I seek to live a life that reflects the Gospel—not only through words, but through action. I am convinced that Christianity must continue to grow in its capacity to contribute to social development, to be a voice for the voiceless, and to be a witness to the transforming power of God’s love.

One book that deeply influenced me is Walking with the Poor by Bryant Myers. It offers a compelling framework that integrates a biblical worldview with the realities of global poverty, and it helped me articulate how Christian ministry can bring restoration in Jesus’ name to broken systems and wounded lives.

I believe God has called me to pastor not just as a preacher, but as a servant-leader who builds up the Church for the sake of the world. My passion is to help people discover their identity in Christ, grow as disciples, and become agents of transformation in their communities.

We lived in Ontario, Canada, with my wife, Eloisa, my daughter Jeniffer, and my son Carlos Manuel. With my wife, Eloisa, we served the Lord through New Hope Free Methodist Church in Bracebridge, Muskoka. Finally, I have a Bachelor's in Theology from the Evangelical University of El Salvador, and also a Master's degree in Research from the same university, additionally a master's degree in Hispanoamerican Literature from the International University of La Rioja, Spain, and an
ABD status in my doctoral studies about Hispanoamerican Philosophy studies from the Central American University (UCA). Other postgraduates were made in Organizational Psychology and Christian Global Leadership. I'm a writer, and I love playing guitar and playing soccer when possible.

To God be the glory.

Study 4: Jesus as the mediator and redeemer

At the trial of Jesus, it seemed that both the weak-willed Roman governor, Pilate, and the shouts of the crowd sentenced Jesus to death. The Bible tells us that these events, amazingly, formed part of God’s purpose from the very beginning of time. Before his crucifixion, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, “Listen! We are going to Jerusalem, where everything the prophets wrote about the Son of Man will come true. He will be handed over to the Gentiles, who will make fun of Him, insult Him, and spit on Him. They will whip him and kill Him, but on the third day he will rise to life.” The disciples did not understand any of these things. (Luke 18:31-34a).

Study 5: Jesus as giver of hope, peace, joy, purpose, and eternal life

The last chapter of Luke gives a clear account of the resurrection of Jesus. After Jesus’ crucifixion, his disciples were afraid of the Jews. While they continued to meet, they did so in secret. Suddenly, Jesus showed up amid their gathering.
